Okolona is in southern Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. It is centered on the intersection of Preton highway and the outer loop. It was first settled by farmers from Pennsylvania and Virginia in the late 18th century. It was called Lone Oak in the late 19th century. However, a town near Paducah, Kentucky already claimed that name for its post office, so the town rearranged the words into Okolona. Farming, as well as logging and charcoal production were important industries around this time.
